Old Skype for Win XP

Hi everyone, I have an oldish netbook with Win XP and only 1GB of RAM. A few months ago Skype "automatically updated" itself and started slowing the whole machine down, probably due the the small amount of RAM. I uninstalled it and installed an older version which has run fine for months.
Recently it has started running slowly again, and completely locking up my netbook. I suspect this is because I also use skype regularly on a more modern PC so when I log on here on the netbook it tries to load all the "previous conversations" from the PC.
I have uninstalled it again, but the older versions appear to have disappeared from the net. I have found one or two but don't know if they are "reputable" sites. Can anyone suggest a suitable download please?

Thanks for the suggestion but don't think it is worth it. It is a four year old Samsung N13 and works perfectly fine for everything but Skype.0 -
Are you aware Microsoft support for XP is ending in 4/5 weeks?
While you'll still be able to use Chrome browser for internet (IE security wise will be vulnerable after support ends) and an AV program, for now anyway, there are security risks involved. Holes in the system will no longer be looked for and fixed. Hackers will seek to exploit this.
4 years old is a really good age for a netbook, but perhaps given you can't get Skype to work and the imminent end of support for XP NiftyDigits suggestion may well be a good one.0 -

Thanks everyone for your help and advice. I have used that link Gary to download 5.5.0.124 from Nov 11 (it always worked well up to then) and it seems to work ok.
I use Chrome not IE so may not update windows yet, will wait and see.0 -
post a hijackthis log and commit charge from task manager, if chrome etc hogs the ram, machine will slow up!!
