You know it was only this morning that I thought to myself I must stop talking so much !!!!!! because clutch centres have never in my lifetime told a customer the flywheel needs doing, when it doesnt....how naive I must be,

I have lost count of how many clutches I have personally done, how many flywheels I have inspected and it certainly isnt as common as you make out,..its alot more common for a flywheel to need skimming when the car enters clutch centres

Bloody Hell you will have to stop me Im off making stuff up again

Must be contagious loads of people are making stuff up about Mr Clutch

So off you trot and have fun reading how fabulous Mr clutch are and I will reflect on the fact I am a born liar

I said what you posted was rubbish.

I have never had an issue in the few times i have used them.

    Never tried the upsell.

Maybe you used to work for them and they sacked you.

    Hence the bitterness.

If you really do change clutches for a living them it must be pretty easy going by the chuff you posted above:rotfl:

Increasingly on petrols too, but I believe DMFs are far more likely to fail on diesels which is ultimately what matters.

Just checked my own car brand, no DMF, great. Appear to be on high end petrol models only. Another 'advance' to avoid when purchasing a car.

Now who's telling porkies, you said you had to take a car back because of a clutch judder, probably due to the fact poor workmanship and how they tightened the gearbox upto the engine, this is normally the cause with a new clutch

Probably because you were driving a Vectra they thought you couldnt afford the upsell, so didnt waste their time

At what point did I say I replaced clutches for a living, I didnt,, Guess what, if your a technician that has been around when Chevettes and Vivas were coming off the production line you tend to come across clutch jobs, then when you progress to be a technical trainer for a German Manufacturer and teach Technicians about clutches and DMF's then I would say I am well within my scope to comment.

You say you owned a garage,,,,,,were clutches a bit of a hard job for you so you stuck to easy stuff like timing belts, oh no thats right your one of those garages that tell customers they need a new DMF and slave cylinder every time you replace the clutch...what was your garage called "Honest John's", "If its not broke we will fix it till it is"

And then people wonder why garages get such a bad name

Reflecting back on the OP's question "Mr Clutch Good, Bad OK?"
Then my answer still stands and the link I provided backs up my comments

All your comment proves is that you were one of the lucky ones, but by your own admission still had a problem where the car had to go back in for a judder

Just google "Mr Clutch Problems" or similar. They are not as bad as Quick Fit but some people have had issues with them. The common theme seems to be quoting low and then raising the price for other things they 'find' that need doing such as skimming, oil seals. They are a chain so you really need to find reviews of the actual place you are thinking of going to.
I used them once a long time ago. They were OK but tried to charge me extra for skimming. Then they said all my gear linkages were worn and needed replacing hence it did not engage gears very well when I got the car back from them (was perfectly alright when I took it in), After adjusting the linkage myself it was fine.
I would prefer to pay a bit extra and take it to a trusted local garage.
