Hello
I am currently employed and have worked at same company for 26 years.
Looks like shortly I will be either fired ,or forced to resign (cant go into more details online)
I have never not worked , but appreciate the challenging job market and also my advancing age will mean its possible that to find work will take time
Worse case scenario is that I will have to sign on for JSA, will savings that I have mean I would not be able to claim JSA (approx 10k in savings)
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Regards

If you are forced to resign due to your own actions - for example 'gross misconduct' - then you may be sanctioned due to this, and be ineligible for JSA for some time.
Leaving, or being fired due to your own actions is treated as leaving a job voluntarily.
10K in savings will not affect you for the first 6 months - when you will qualify for contribution based ESA.
After 6 months when you come to claim income-related JSA, savings of 10K - 4K above the lower limit of 6K - will affect your benefit by 4K*4 =16 pounds a week.
Spending the 10K in ways that is judged 'unreasonable' - may cause you to be treated as if you still had some or all of it.0 -
As I understand it even if you are deemed by the job centre to have left your job voluntarily and are sanctioned it is worth signing on as soon as you leave work as the sanction will still run if you leave it for a few months. Hopefully you will find a new job. Also if you consider your dismissal is unfair don't neglect to appeal - actions like this might sway the job centre over their decision as to whether you would be sanctioned.
If you do leave you may be entitled to help with housing and council tax - although your savings would reduce this help as would the earnings of a partner.0 -
The sanction period runs whether you sign on for JSA or not, as I understand it, in most cases.When_the_going_gets_tough wrote: »As I understand it even if you are deemed by the job centre to have left your job voluntarily and are sanctioned it is worth signing on as soon as you leave work as the sanction will still run if you leave it for a few months.

In addition, even one days short-term employment that you did not leave voluntarily will reset the sanction.0
