To my knowledge BG won't let you have two payment plans on one account, ie in your instance you can't have a meter and a payment card. It is one or the other I'm afraid. Also at £8 per month it would take nearly three years to pay the debt back, again something BG wouldn't accept. The original agent advised you incorrectly.
I'd suggest you agree to have the debt on the prepayment meter and have it fitted. Keep a record of how much you pay towards the debt, you will then know once it has been repaid and can make sure BG don't end up owing you ££££££.
Whilst you are sorting this out, can I suggest you start paying what you can afford to stop the debt accumulating further? Also you may be entitled to compensation for the missed appointments which can be credited to your account to help bring down the balance.0
