Old Style Daily Thread Friday 7th March

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Tired again as woke up at 4am and could not get back to sleep, I should have got up and done something useful.

In a mad dash but just wanted to send love and hugs to Mrs MH and Julie. I hope that black dog packs up his bags and leaves and you are both feeling better soon x

Well wishes for sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

    Morning all,

Cool but bright here so hopefully a nice day. Horrible meal out last night we went to one of those pub chains, I hate them anyway but the girls at work seem to like them, anyway we waited over an hour and then all the dinners were cold and not well cooked, mine had a huge hair on it _pale_ I kicked up a fuss and got a refund and came home hungry ! I would much rather pay a bit more for a decent meal !

Off to work today and dd to uni, bit its Friday !! not sure about dinner tonight will go and rummage in the freezer in a while.

Need to do a wash and tidy round.

    Have good days all xx

Hope the black dog has run away Julie & Mrs MH - always a friend on here.
Hugs to those in need, hope everyone is well.

Raining again, yesterday it just drizzled all day and then the heavens opened about 3pm. By the time I had spoken to the builder and got to the hospice I was soaked. Washing on the airers another load in that I will hang when I get in from work. DW just doing its stuff and the filters from the cooker hood have had a wash, I could smell curry and we haven't had that since last week!

Sausages for tea tonight with a salad for lunch, DD will have hm soup for her lunch but will have to take a big container as she has lost all the others. Going to have to start charging!

I was exhausted last night, went to the hospice after work and then came straight home and painted the shelves. Managed to get a shower about 8.30 and that was the first I had stopped all day. One more coat on the shelves tonight and then I can start putting stuff in the cupboard - the builder should be getting the door today. That means that I can get rid of a shelving unit and it makes the bedroom nearly clear enough to decorate.

Anyway, must get in the shower, going to pick up a dressing table after work that I got on freegle - I have done quite well with them the last couple of weeks - feels like I am getting something back for all the stuff I gave away before we moved.

Have a good Friday. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them.

Now light, cloudy, dull and dreich, bit of a breeze, no frost though.

DH up and getting ready for work.

Dinner last night was roast pork loins, HM potato bake, HM cauli/broc cheese, carrots and gravy, was really delicious and everything got eaten! I didn’t make huge portions though as the HM potato bake was one of my “made up as I go along” recipes, and turned out ok! Hoping I can remember what I did for another time. Dinner tonight is ham, egg and chips/jacket potato.

Was productive yesterday, got the pc sorted early on, then had a while where I had the CBA mood on and then I got myself going as if I get behind with everything now, I’m going to struggle keeping up as we’re just so busy over the coming weeks. So got the housework done, washing, drying and ironing. Then had enough time to do a menu plan for next week and check what we have in the cupboards and freezer etc, budget is already blown but it’s good to just keep a track of what we’re spending and I’m actively not throwing food away, and trying to use up LO’s where possible. Will start again with the GC on my own next week and try to be better!

Today I will do all the normal chores, I need to visit town shortly, to go to the bank, food shopping and then once I’m home, I will endeavour to do some cooking/baking so the tins have something in them for the coming week.

On a more positive note, I managed to win again yesterday on the online gaming I use did spend a bit but the winnings was vastly more than I spent – so not a bad result. Winnings will be used to put bit more of cc once it’s hit the bank account.

Have a good Friday everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

Sorry for the short question yesterday, just a bit exasperated ATM. To our younger members, are the flowers pinned on the outfit for Mums at weddings out of fashion? Told yesterday by DS, oh no they are American. Strange sure our Mums had them, thought it let the other side know who the Mums were! Onwards and upwards, at the moment, just looking forward to it being all over.

Yesterday was my pamper package, I had a Groupon over a year ago now, but she lets me join in as I have become a regular, so had facial, back massage, eyebrows plucked ( allergic to wax ), pedicure & gel nail toes & fingers. £27, was there almost 4 hours. Will give her a mention on FB, as she is trying to build her customer base. Have another one booked before "the event", and one before we return to Spain.

Thinking of going to town today for a mooch round, but at the moment it us raining, so will see if it clears up as forecast. Forgot to put a loaf on last night, so will go and put one in now.

Also had to sort out a problem with the service package we bought with the car, after a few phone calls, managed to reach a good compromise with the Dealer, very calmly, even been asked to go for a coffee with the big boss when we take it in.

Julie & Mrs MH hoping you can kick the BD out if the door, all I can offer is an ear via PM if it is needed :grouphug:

Camelot Haven't you just bought the house? Wasn't the roof picked up on the survey you would have paid for? I would be asking some questions, if the roof wasn't mentioned!

nmic. Think the only was you can cut your grocery costs more is to serve more cheaper cuts, mince, as cottage pies, lasagne, etc., with them bulked out with carrots, lentils, oats, or stews weigh extra veg., or even a veggie option, once a week, but maybe DH & the kids dislike that?

To those of you working, TGIF, don't work too hard, ((hugs)), Spoons, with an extra portion for LW, Hi-5's, etc, grab a handful as you pass. Take care everyone. DG

    Good morning all,

Thanks for your kind wishes, feeling a touch better this morning as I managed to sleep from 1 until 5 and then 5 until 8 which is great for me at the moment:)
We are hoping to start decorating the hall stairs and landing this weekend which will keep us busy
I've had a letter about claiming back some charges for card protection and heard Martin talking about it yesterday on Radio 4 so need to fill that in
I'm hoping to get my new car early next week which means I'm no longer trapped when hubby is out as it's automatic.
I'm also trying to organise a group trip away to the lakes when my brother comes home in June. Not easy when your feeling rubbish but trying to have positive thoughts every day x

  • Cloudy here so far, but the forecast is that it will brighten up later and that the weekend is going to be fab so DH wants to move the small shed in the garden tomorrow and build a proper wood store, and we will get rid of the eyesore that he had to throw up in between rain showers.

He is also going to put some shelves up in the kitchen, but that will not take him long, if he does that first thing, then I can clean up after him while he is in the garden with DS.

Car has just gone in for its MOT, just hope it gets through.
Also had the car tax reminder in and it has gone up yet again so has the pipe insurance and house insurance
I wish DH's wages would keep up :(:(

Only one load of washing to do and that is on the line now.

Off to sow a few more seeds and put them in the greenhouse

    BFN x

Was with hubby this morning first thing at the doctors. He is being referred privately.

I didn't sleep well last night, things going round and round in my head. I wish I was brave, I wish I was strong and not so needy.:(

Havent started any of my chores today. I'm a bit late. The house is covered in white hairs due to me bathing the girls yesterday. Millie dog loses shedded hair in the bath when I bath her but Lucy dog holds on to hers and shakes them all over the carpets. Still, they smell a bit sweeter.:)

    Fish for tea tonight.

    Have a good day all,
