It is not possible to delete a thread that you have started, best option is to edit it with a new comp or ask the BG to delete it.

Individual posts on a thread can be deleted but not the OP.
Nothing has changed in that respect.

Hi,if it is a duplicate that you have posted I would just leave it in the thread body but with maybe a strike out.A title edit could then indicate that it was a dupe.
The two threads could then be passed to a BG for a merge.

    eg as here
To edit a new comp in to the thread may lead to members duplicating their entry unless you are super quick at editing the thread.
Just seems a clearer way of doing things.
This is is just my view of course.

Yeah, you can delete posts, but not the opening post in a thread. Email a BG to ask for a thread to be deleted.

However, dupes should be merged rather than deleted, for anyone who has thanked/green ticked. I would also suggest it's probably best not to edit it by switching it to a new comp, as that would be confusing for anyone who has ticked thanks/entered.

As Weeowens said, perhaps change your title to say it's a dupe and request a merge, or someone else will if you don't say you've done so on the thread.

And welcome to the dupe club :D

Thanks for the replies folks. I was unaware that the op in a thread couldn't be deleted, only individual posts. I read the guide before posting this question but couldn't/didn't see that. Obviously was half asleep...lol. l marked the thread dupe last night and l'll ask for a merge later.

Thanks again everyone for taking the time to reply.
