If she did come to live with you you could claim carers allowance and income support subject to savings and capitol.

hi thanks, neither of us have no savings or capital.
i assumed it would be JSA as when i looked on line for some advise i couldnt find anything to say it could be income support :/
would me quitting my job effect anything?

Would your mum be coming to live with you permanently?

    Does she usually live alone?

You can claim Carer's Allowance with an Income Support top up but it may affect your mum's benefits.

Claiming IS will give you an entitlement to Housing Benefit or Housing costs - Support for Mortgage Interest (the latter after 13 weeks - )

I can't post links at the moment and am off to bed but google Carer's Allowance for more information.

Might catch up with you in the morning!

Resigning your job might affect JSA - you could probably say you had good cause to resign because of your caring duties and not be sanctioned but would you be job seeking?

Income support plus CA would not be affected if you resigned.

she doesnt usually live alone so i dont think she gets any extra

Do take into consideration that if she recovers well, she is likely to lose her DLA and then you will lose the carer's component. If/when that happens, are you confident you will be able to get back into employment easily?

You'd also get child tax credit/child benefit on top of that.

hi, i get both of those now with working tax, although i know i wont get the working tax part for much longer

does anyone know who my first point of contact would need to be?

Once you know the date that your job finishes then you can put in a claim for Carer's Allowance.

Once that is done you can put in a claim for Income Support (the Carer's Allowance will be deducted from your Income Support) which will act as a 'top up' to your Carer's Allowance. I believe that you can put in the claim for Income Support as soon as you apply for CA- just tell them that you have applied.

    REad this:

    http://www.nhs.uk/CarersDirect/moneyandlegal/otherbenefits/Pages/IncomeSupport.aspx

Then you will be entitled to HB and CT support.

You must notify tax credits of your change of circumstances within a month.

You can put all your details into the calculator on https://www.turn2us.co.uk to get a good idea of what your entitlements will be.

hi, i have used the calculator but not sure if i did it correctly, i left my job 4 days ago, i have just filled in an online form for carers allowance but was told i cannot claim for income support as yet as i have a four weeks on run of working tax credits been paid so was told to wait until my tax credits will be finished in around 3 weeks.

does anyone know how income support and carers allowance may effect my child tax credits??
