I am looking for a digital camera that can film for 2 hours.
I want to record a person preparing food. If there was some blood on some meat. Or meat was cut into and it was a bit pink inside, and the lens was pointed at the meat or that part of it, i'd want the camera to pick that up.
What do you suggest?
How much would I have to spend?

Hi, we move threads if we think they’ll get more help elsewhere (please read the forum rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.
I’ve moved your thread from the ‘I wanna’ board to the ‘Techie Stuff’ board, where it is better suited.

If it need to be high quality and you're not doing it regularly, I would just rent a decent enthusiast level video camera, it'll look much better and you won't be left with a big investment.0

How close up can you get? Will the camera be operated or just left to run? Have you already got a tripod? Lights? Where will the footage end up? Doors it need to be HD?0

Surely the issue isn't solely the camera, it's also the size of the memory card used?0

I don't mind forking out on a memory card.
The camera will be still.
I don't have a tripod, only a spiderpodium.
There will be some light as it's a kitchen, but whether the light will be sufficient I don't know.
It would be used routinely approx once a week, for a few years.
I want it to catch well the particular coloration of meat, whether slightly pink for example.0 -
The colour fidelity of consumer cameras is pretty poor, rather there is a heap of circuitry that tries to normalise colour, so without specific reproducible lighting and a decent camera the colour variation may not be as discernible as you hope. For instance if one day it's fluorescent lighting, one day incandescent, another natural daylight, the meat will look different. It's getting kinda in-depth to get it right.0

You would be making a wise investment if you also bought two lamps that can be aimed at the area you want to film. You can get adequate tripods for a very reasonable price if you hunt around - this will also improve the quality of the final footage.0
