Good access to the A30 it's a pleasant enough village, they have a pub that your entertainment and a kind of bus service all of Cornwall has a kind of bus service so you will need a car if you want village life.
OP sounds like Roche would tick most your boxes just outside of St Austell close to the coast and everything a town can offer cinema/bowling and shops train station (7/8 miles away) and on the doorstep to the A300 -
I have friends in Cornwall and while it really is beautiful there are problems with living there.
Have you been in the winter?
Yes it's quiet and commuting is easy but a lot of places close down, the owners having worked 24/7 during the season, often spend the winter taking a well earned rest.
In the summer what is a pleasant drive when on holiday can be a nightmare drive if you're trying to get somewhere to work. In Winter my friend can get to Exeter station in 30-45 minutes, in the summer that can be up to two hours sitting in gridlocked traffic.
Also, many of those lovely villages can be largely deserted in the winter when there are few visitors.
Make sure you do proper homework and are happy with how it is all year round and not just in the summer.
Make sure you do proper researchOne by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
Hi All,
Thank you all so much.
Erichamster- It's the beach at Perranporth that gets me ! the vibe when we went was like most other seaside towns in the summer, beautiful though. I also really love St Ives but its a bit to far although that's being debated at the min !
Near St Austell we are looking at St Stephen Roche, Bugle, Whitemoor any more to add?
Near Truro- Perranporth, St Agnes, Chacewater, Threemilestone, Shortlanesend, Tregony, Grampound.
Any of those to avoid or to add ?
Thank you all again for helping me, we are trying to sort out some dates to visit the summer.

Perranporth does have a great beach, I don't blame you. St Ives is great, super expensive though, we'd def consider living there if we could afford it though, prob one of the reasons we keep playing the lottery! St Ives is deader than dead in the winter though.
I'd add Cubert and Crantock, they are two villages between Perranporth and Newquay. Cubert has a primary school, 1 shop and a pub/restaurant and is about 1 and a half miles from the beach at Holywell Bay. Crantock has its own beach directly across the Gannel Estuary from Newquay, as well as 3 pubs and a shop.
I'd think seriously about how close to the sea and/or entertainment you want to live, public transport is not great here (buses once an hour at most, usually finishing at 10pm and less frequent on Sundays) and carparks fill up fast, we love being able to walk to a variety of beaches as well as restaurants/bars rather than always having to drive or pay for taxis. I imagine this would become even more important with several children to ferry about, the villages can be quite boring for teens, I remember spending half my life on buses trying to get to Newquay or Truro at that age.Started Comping 25th September 2013.

I moved to cornwall 14 years ago in my early 20's - started in st austell, then moved to Mevagissey then to St Dennis and now reside in Perranporth which I have to say is my favourite of the lot. It's a great place to live and has everything you need in a small town and lots of families live herre so there is a fair bit to do. The beach is fantastic, walking distance to pubs etc... I'd have to be forced to move away now.0
