Hello all,
I am in a dilemma. My car and my own stupidity have been giving me bother over the last few months. I had a small low-speed prang in April last year, then a car ran into me in November (not my fault, got sorted), then the springs went under the drivers side wheel, another £150 repair, + RAC membership as I was lucky it broke down outside a friends house, and NOW I have got my first speeding fine.
I am beginning to think my car is cursed.
In 2010 not long after buying it I reversed into a van and I now have a large dent above the bumper, which has not caused any problems. The car has been serviced and MOT'd and passed.
I am now wondering is it worth getting rid of it. It was paid for up front but my tax, insurance and these incidental costs are probably running to about £1200 a year. INcluding petrol.
What is the likelyhood of selling it with dent, or should I just keep it til it dies mechanically? I live in a city so I could survive without it, but I may end up spending more on public transport and taxis.
Has anyone sold a perfectly running but dented car before? Is it worth it?
Thanks!

If your insurance, tax and petrol are only £1200 p.a. you cannot be doing many miles!. Do you need a good looking car? note I said need.
If not keep it till it dies, you will struggle to get a decent price for it whilst it keeps its dents!0 -
My mileage is up to 60,000 but I don't do many miles at all. I did consider the fact that if I need a car in the future it will cost me a fortune to get something new. I have no finance on this at all so thats a plus? I guess I just have to accept that having a car is an expensive luxury, and looking at the lashing rain outside now, I am glad to have it... and I may be kicked off this site for saying but with my speeding fine and charge to change my irish licence to a UK one, you have to think... SURE ITS ONLY MONEY...!!!:(0

Another car could cost you more. At least you know the history and, if it looks a bit battered, no one is going to mess with it.
Run it (safely) until the wheels fall off. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
