Sorry in the delay replying it's been one of those days.
Yes I earn but not much. I was told I'd never work again hence the pension but have managed to find a role that is home based and fits around my condition. My earnings will be roughly £8,000 a year there's no employer pension scheme as I am doing it on a self employed basis.
Yes I assume I will be a tax payer when I retire although I have many years to go before I get there so the rules/thresholds are likely to have changed.
I am in my mid thirties, single although I live with my partner and am a home owner (my house and mortgage not joint).
I don't have a vast amount to put to one side for a pension, but after putting into a pension since I was 16, I don't want to suddenly stop and end up poor in my old age.
    Thanks for your help

Correct me if I'm wrong but you say in this post you are self employed therefore you can be paying your own NI contributions?
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

Sorry my error must have had hands typing faster than my brain was working. Although I did think I'd realised and amended the post straight after I read it back, I must be going mad.
Anyway I was self employed briefly as I was undertaking the work as a contractor however both and I the company were worried about IR35 and the rules. So after a few months a company who provides this type of contractors (lets call them ABC) was brought in. I was then employed by ABC to deliver the work to the company I was previously delivering self- employed work to via them. It's a bit complicated but I am employed by ABC on a series of short term contracts (normally a few months). Therefore I am an employee but there's not much security and I don't meet the criteria to enter the pension scheme, however to be fair since September I've only had a few weeks without work.
Probably a long answer to say I'm not self-employed
