I want to set up Skype on my pc to talk to my son and his family in the States. I have the application installed. My PC does not have a webcam so he bought me a clip on Logitech one which plugs into my pc's usb port.
He calls me and we get the picture going and I can hear and see him and he can see me but he cannot hear me.
I assume I need to change the sound settings on the pc to use the webcams microphone and I have tried to do this. It works briefly and then I can use the Skype self test. So I save the settings but it drops them and reverts back to the internal sound card by the time I come to use it. Then the sound test fails and we have to scramble around to make it work again.
My pcs sound card is a realtek high definition audio card. Do I need a separate mike and camera to use my PC for skype-ing. If so how to configure it? (I do have some headphones not connected at present). Is there an idiot's guide anywhere?.

You need to tell Skype to use the microphone from the webcam, if it has one.
Choose the Tools menu, then Options. Under General, click Audio settings. From the drop-down menu next to Microphone, choose your webcam's microphone. You might be able to recognise it by the name.0 -
Remember to use the echo test that shows in your contacts list - that is a good way to test out your settings for audio.
Also make sure your camera is connected BEFORE you start Skype.0
