Letter from CC company re CCPPI

My husband has just received a letter telling him he signed up for CCPPI back in 2006 when he opened his CC account. Neither of us remember doing it or paying for it and is not showing up on recent statements.

If we fill in the form and it turns out he have never had CCPPI would he be committing some form of fraud or cause potential trouble for him .

Firms can withdraw business if they feel the person is acting in a fraudulent matter. You tend to find the big firms dont take any action but smaller ones are known to.

A truthful complaint should not be fraudulent. However, if you tell lies as part of your complaint then it would be fraudulent as you are attempting to obtain funds by deception.

In most cases, you only pay credit card PPI if you borrow on the card outside the free period. So, its quite possible to have the account set up with PPI but never pay a penny.

  • Thanks Dunstonh. We would have told the truth and would not attempt to deceive. My husband still uses the card (paid in full each month Now) and we would like to retain it. The company is the largest B/S and we have several accounts with them.

The letter came 'out of the blue' and clearly states he was sold it at the time.

The only requirement for a CCL to be sent is if the account has it. However, as mentioned, with credit cards, if you repay the balance in full each month, you wont actually be paying it. Have you ever failed to repay the credit card in full each month?

For a while it was almost at the limit and only in the last couple of years have we cleared and managed to maintain a zero balance.

I did wonder whether to fill in the form but add a covering letter stating that we weren't aware of either having CCPPI or paying for it.

We are both retired now and my husband has health issues so if any money is due it would be more than welcome.

you would have paid in those months.

Not aware is the weakest of the reasons. Its on the monthly statements when paid and its an unprovable allegation. Mention it by all means but try and use something stronger

  • Sorry to be the proverbial 'pain' but would it have shown as a separate entry or added to interest charged.

It would have its own entry. It is never included in the interest.

  • Thanks for that. In which case we may have signed up but cancelled almost immediately. I'd have noticed a separate entry especially as I was aware of PPI mis-selling.
