Yorkshire Bank Internal Switching Service

Well to say I am fuming typing this is an understatement.
I need to know what I can do legally.

At the Beginning of Feb, I contacted my bank, I applied to upgrade my account and it was accepted. So I was moving from a BOG standard ReadyCash Account to a Current account +.

it was an internal transfer, so I thought well the easier thing, would be to have YB transfer over my 10 DD's and SO's.

I was sent confirmation of the account, T@C's, switching forms, and a form to send to my employer. I filled in and returned ALL paperwork. so putting faith in YB, I went about my daily life.

28th feb I started to get texts from my Car Insurance and Sky TV, saying my DDs had bounced. Well this was strange as I had instructed the move. so I rang YB, who said nothing but they will get someone from the switching dept to call me back. I asked if I should contact all DD's and SO's and pay them myself. I was told yes.

so off the phone I went and rang round every body, moving DD's and paying outstanding.. As this was NEVER about that I didn't have the funds. My pay from the 25th feb was sat in my new account.

A day later, still no callback, and a bouncedDD letter for 2 DD's charges of £35 each ( so £70) has landed on my doorstep.

I called YB again asking what is happening, has the forms been received, I was told I don't know, I will get someone to call you back. I get home and another bounced DD, another £35 charge

Yesterday I made the mistake of leaving my phone in my gym bag, in my car, they called back. arrrgghh.

so I call them back today, I am told by a lady, the gentleman who called you is the manager, he is in a meeting and will call you back. I asked her if she expected the charges to be refunded, she said altho she couldn't speak for him, she didn't see why not.

I have just received the phone call. he asked me when I sent back the switching form, what was on it etc. I advised it was with the account opening authorisation, and T&C's envelope. he said that had been received, but the switching form was never received.
so as a gesture of goodwill they will refund 3 charges. I asked how many charges of £35 were on the old Readycash account. I was told 6.

So I am going to have to pay £105 in charges for returning a form, which was with forms they have received..

i have been made to feel that i am to blame for this mess, do i really have £105 excess cash i don't know what to do with, erm no..

I wish I had never used the switching service. I will be removing all my banking from Yorkshire Bank/Clydesdale Bank. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS

Help what can I do to get the extra 3 charges refunded????

As far as i am aware, you can't use the Switching Service to transfer within the same bank ?

Wow if that's true, why the heck did they offer it.. gggrrr banks
  • And as far as I know, most banks when you upgrade (or downgrade) an existing current account don't even change account numbers.

No idea how the Yorkshire operate, but I don't see why they would be any different.

What service was offered ? Was it the Current Account Switching Service ?

Or was it an offer to transfer your standing orders and DD's from your old account to your new one ?

These are 2 completely different services.

Some good news already.. Yorkshire bank complaints department have reversed all charges. They are not accepting blame nor saying blame is with me.
Lady spoke to me with so much respect, even tho i was nearly in tears.

Sounds like you are well on the way to get this sorted - just persist.

Make sure they also agree to revert any negative report they might have sent to the credit reference agencies.
