Can I claim compensation for miss sold GAP insurance....if so how???

Options
Hi, I feel I have been miss sold GAP insurance.

When purchasing a car I got told that if I ever wrote it off I wouldn't have to pay a penny because the GAP insurance would pay off the finance company. I crashed my car and it was wrote off the road, this was in 2010. The GAP insurance only paid a little off the car. I am now, struggling I might add, still paying off my car finance.

I was wondering how I can find out if I can claim compensation for this. It would be a great help if you could point me in the right direction.

Thanks :)

You have totally misunderstood what GAP insurance actually is. Having Gap insurance will only result in you being paid the difference between the price you paid for your car and the car insurance payout agreed when a claim is made. That's why it only paid out the amount you received.

You can complain that you were told the insurance covered far more than it actually did, but your complaint would be "hearsay" for which you could provide no evidence. The seller will simply point to the policy terms you were provided with at the time and reject any such complaint.
