Good point above about turbo cars.
Never mind oil changes (I'd say follow the manufactrer's recommendations, which vary greatly, and also adjust for your driving type - school run will need it more often than motorway muncher) - you need to regularly check your oil, especially in a turbo.
We're all lulled into a false sense of security with our ultra reliable engines that don't leak any oil, then turbos have made a big comeback, and will only continue to do so - turbos use the oil for lubrication. It's very hot up there, and can get burnt off. That's oil lost from the engine. I've got a Mini Cooper S (1.6 turbo) with a healty appetite for oil...0 -
Well, maybe I'm wrong but I've just switched to using synthetic on the advice on VW who altered their specs (my car is 14 years old) and it's running better than ever.
You can't go wrong following the manufacturer's advice but the suggestion that everyone should do the same was misplaced.0
