We have 3 kids under 8 so bought a Citroen C8 Auto diesel a couple of years ago for price and the size really... the worst car I have ever bought. Reliability is truly awful, seats are too heavy and bulky to move about, fuel consumption very poor as it is a big car.
It cost us about £2K in maintenance in that time and had some major bills coming up for the next MOT and service so I traded it in for a petrol 1.8 manual Zafira, this is the best car I ever owned, nice to drive and very practical and hopefully it will be cheap to run. If you only need an occasional 7 seater then this is the way to go IMO.
I would say a petrol car has got to be cheaper to run nowadays unless you are doing 20,000 a year or more.
  • Have 3 kids and had a zafira for 7 to 8 years now. Good cheap for the size cars. Great for trips with playmates and brilliant for moving. The back seats can but up one by one so you can separate the kids a bit to help wigh squabbles! Three car seats tricky. We could do 2 booster seats and one booster seat with a back. We tended though to out thd ekdest in the middle without. Also look for models with a proper seat belt in the middle. Good luck in your search

  • If you do lots of small journeys I would avoid the 1.9cdti I had a nightmare with the EGR & DPF and despite replacement by Vauxhall at over £ 1k it never worked properly again - get a petrol or pre 2005 if the Zafira is what you want
