Crack in windscreen - claim on insurance?

Options
Hi, I was just wondering if anyone could help with this...

I've got a crack in my windscreen (smaller than a £2 coin) and I have windscreen cover through my insurance for a £25 excess, or could get it done directly through autoglass for £72.50.

My questions are, if I claimed through the insurance would that when effect my quote for next year? And does it effect my no claims bonus?

I'm a young(ish) driver and I'm still battling to get my insurance prices down so anything that would push it back up again I'd like to avoid, especially if the cost in getting it repaired without the insurance being involved is only an extra £50.

Thanks a lot!

A repair usually doesn't - USUALLY - you would need to check the T&Cs of your individual policy to check; they can be that specific.

If in doubt, call your insurer and get them to put it in writing (and receive it) before you proceed.

Insurers have already put it in writing to you regards the NCD, your policybook will tell you. I am not aware of any that will actually reduce your NCD for a glass claim but there are a few insurers that stop you earning a years NCD in a year where you make a glass claim.

As to impacting premium, this will vary by insurer. Most dont, a few do, and as pricing decisions/ engines change at least weekly with most insurers then they arent going to put anything in writing on this front.

I forgot to declare a glass claim when switching my policy last, called up my insurers before the policy incepted and they added it with no change in premium.

Brilliant, I'll have a look through the policy and see what I find. Think I will give them a ring just to make sure it won't effect quotes going forward, just to be on the safe side.

    Thanks for your help!

Don't ring them unless you are going to make a claim.

(Once you inform your insurer then the loss/incident goes on your record and will have to be disclosed to future insurers you go to for quotes over the next 3/5 years depending on how long a history they ask about)

Do dummy quotes online with and without this claim in your history to see what difference claiming makes to the premiums and take it from there.
