Are there any tariffs for very low electricity users?

I'm leaving EON because I've had no end of trouble with them, and so now I'm looking for another electricity supplier.

The thing is, for various reasons, my electricity usage is really tiny. From what I can see in my present bills, I seem to be paying more in the standing charge than I am for the electricity. It feels as if I'm throwing money down the drain.

So can anyone recommend an electricity supplier that offers a tariff that would suit a very low user like me?

Thank you.

    Welcome to the forum.

Ebico have no daily standing charge(actually they have, but it is zero). Many with really low consumption use that firm. However there are tariffs with low DSC of around 10p a day that have a lower unit charge than Ebico that might be cheaper depending on your consumption.

You need to use a comparison website like www.energyhelpline.co.uk and enter your electricity consumption in kWh to find out the cheapest.

npower has fixes that are even cheaper than Ebico's variable tariff (when paying by direct debit.)

Other tariffs have standing charges of less than £2 and less than £1.60 per month.

As Cardew says the easiest way to find the tariffs is to use a comparison site. npower, First Utility and Ebico are the likeliest candidates.

Low usage can be very variable and chaotic - a small change can make a big difference. Consider how your chosen tariff will suit if you use an extra 180 or 360 kWhs a year.
  • Green Energy do a zero standing charge but quite high tariff at 17p /kwhr in my area of the North East

If you don't pay a standing charge then you will pay a lot more per unit of energy because they have to make up the difference by adding to the unit rate. You have to weigh that up before deciding! Put some figures into a price comparison site with lowest and highest energy consumption for a year to take into account lower usage during warmer winters and higher than normal usage for colder winters etc.
  • Just to say thank you to everyone here for this very useful advice - and to apologise for not getting back sooner.

I've just gone to Green Energy UK, and I have to say, their website is rubbish. Click on 'tariffs' and it gives you the names of their three tariffs (quirkily named 'tap', 'still' and 'sparkling'), but click on these to find out how much they are, and nothing happens! There's supposed to be a video explaining everything about the company, but click it and you find it's a dead link. Not impressed.

To get meaningful advice you need to define 'very low user.' How many kWh annually?

Pretty much EVERY supplier does this - very few will provide you with a self-evident path to the pdfs of current tariffs.

(Edit: You need to enter your postcode in the box bottom left of the three tariffs (where it looks like a business rates query) and then 'look up' which you want.)
