Hi, a quick question. I have applied for child tax credit and had my first payment. I am receiving £85 per week. When I put my details in to entitled to it says I should be getting £114. Can anyone tell me if its worth me calling them to check its correct.

- Single parent
- 2 children under 5
- Currently not working but start a new F/T job on Monday
- Earnings for 2012/13 £20,600
- Earnings for 2013/14 so far £14,000 - will end on about £15,200

I know I need to call them on Monday to tell them about my new job. Understand this may then alter my CTC payments. Just would like to know what I should be getting in my current situation before starting work.

Thanks

tables are here, assuming they are calculating off last years income then the number sounds correct

When you call on Monday you can give them an estimate for this years income and ask them to base it off that number, due to the disregard then will ignore the first £2,500 of decrease so if you tell them £15,200 they will amend the award to be based on £17,700

due to qualifying for working tax credits you will likely see an increase.

£114 is maximum Child Tax Credit for two children. If you have just applied and only had your first award notice, HMRC will have based your payments on your income last year of £20,600 which is where the £85 comes from.

Presumably the entitled to calculator asked for income from last year and an estimate of current year when you filled it in.

You need to call them and let them know your estimated income for 13/14 and your new job details, that should get your award amended.
