How to start self cater apartment business?

Hi All

I just wonder if any one knows what I can do to rent the 2nd floor house as self catering apartment to use it as business for my wife. I read a lot of threads about rent to lodger but I can’t find the answer. So is this the same rules (council, tax, insurance, etc……) ?

Thanks

Do you mean rent it for short term lets? If so I'm pretty sure it would be subject to business rates, and you would probably need planning permission to change use from residential to business. It all sounds very complicated and expensive to me.

We will still living in 1st floor and has access to 2nd floor and rent it per night basis. I've often stayed in these sorts of places when working away from home but I don't know how it been managed. In trip advisor and holiday letting web sites there is a lot of flats & houses like this.
