Can I drive my wife's car on my own policy?

You phone up an insurance company (or use comparison sites as that's the MSE way) and you get quotes for both of you, her as main driver, you as a named driver.
Would it not be better (cheaper) for the OP to be the main driver and his wife to be a named driver? The point vqmismatch made about who the registered keeper is would then come into play though.0 -
It'd show on ANPR as uninsured even if DOC didn't require insurance, so why wouldn't they pull it?
Also, if it's not got its own insurance, it'd become uninsured as soon as you got out of it, no?
None of which matters because the police don't have powers of seizure under the CI regs for an uninsured car simply being on the road, they can only seize them for being driven uninsured.
Which you can't be doing if you've got outJust carry the relevant Certificate of Insurance and sue the police for wrongful interference with property for damages along with any oter costs associated with getting the car out of the pound
Absolutely, and preferably have the policy booklet with you as well to show absolutely that there's no "must be insured" restriction. But it's a lot of aggro at the time when you're standing in a motorway services watching the borrowed car disappear on a flatbed0 -
Sorry guys, I'm really confused.
DOC means driving other peoples cars I believe.
But I'd be driving my wife's car and I've already been told by my insurance that I would just transfer my policy across.
Are you saying I would still be stopped by plod?
Also, how do Mobility drivers get on then. I know of someone who lets her son drive her car even though she is the registered owner and keeper.0
