PPI Claim - Savings at the time

Options
Hi All,
Hoping you can assist me? I currently have a PPI claim under investigation with Barclaycard. They have requested additional information. I have been asked to supply evidence of savings I had at the start of the policy. This was back in November 2003.

I no longer have any paperwork for that time (I've only kept back to 2006). I have spoken with my bank and they are unable to help either as they only have records back 6 years.

I'm confident that I didn't have any savings at the time as recently graduated with student loan and new mortgage.

Any advice as to how I should answer the question?

Many thanks
Tilly Floss

If they are asking for evidence of savings, did you use that as a reason why you shouldn'thave had it?

  • Thanks for replying. I didn't use savings as a reason which is why I'm concerned about how I reply. I'm worried that they might use the fact that I didn't have savings as a reason to reject my claim. Back then I could only dream of having money left over at the end of the month!!

    Tell them that then.

They only reason they would ask for evidence is if you told them you had savings? Did you use a template letter that said you had savings?

  • Thanks, I phoned to cancel the policy and it was referred for review by the person I was speaking to. I then received a questionnaire which I completed and returned. Savings were not mentioned as it's only been in the last few years that I've managed to have some!! I feel quite silly not knowing I had a policy but the credit card was clear for so long that they didn't send statements whilst at zero balance. Thanks for everyone's advice.
  • Thank you for the advice and more importantly the confidence boost! Just received confirmation letter that my claim is being upheld and that I will have £707 refunded. Whoop whoop!
