Sales of Goods Act vs. Apple

I bought an Apple macbook in January 2013 and it just stopped working (I got it checked out by a few people and it's a hardware issue which will need replacing). I'm out of warranty but having spent £1000+ on a laptop, I have obviously expected it to work longer than a year and the hardware problem isn't my fault (from what I found out, it sometimes just happens). I'm seeing Apple tomorrow but I was wondering what's my chance of getting the hardware replaced for free under Sales of Goods Act?

If not from Apple direct then you need to go to your retailer.

It's a hard drive issue btw, forgot to add. Ralph, my question is what are my chances on getting it fixed for free.0

Hmm, hard drives do fail at random, and given the number that are sold, a significant number will fail within a year (I have a memory that the risk is about 0.7% per year).
Apple will probably do the job for free if you're nice to them, and don't go in yelling about your rights before you're just said "not working, fancy having a look at it?"
I'm slightly surprised by a machine bought last year having a hard drive issue simply because I thought most of them were SSD by then, but assuming it has got a hard drive, it's a trivial job on most Pros: I've swapped several. Fifty quid for the drive, a hundred if you decide to shove an SSD in instead. Apple will do it almost certainly, but it's hardly a big deal if for some reason they won't.0 -
Again this depends on where you bought it from.... Did you buy it direct from Apple or from an authorised dealer?
If its Apple and if your nice and don't behave like a bull in a china shop, then usually they will replace it provided its not excessively outside of its warranty.
If you bought it from an authorised dealer then your at there mercy as to whether they will replace or repair it.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -

If you bought it from Apple, probably 90% assuming there is no signs of miss use (though apple often replace things FOC when they are only just out of warrant without mention of SoFA)
If you bought it from anyone else then 0%, SoGA only is between you and the retailer. That said, go softly with it all and Apple may well deal with it FOC as they often do for just out of warranty items0 -
Can only reiterate - don't go in all guns blazing. Stay calm.0
