Im just pulling up some carpet which looks like its from the 70s.
The underlay is a green foam like material which is stuck to the floor (it is a concrete floor). Is this likely to be asbestos?

No , we had the same underneath some old laminateNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0

Unlikely. I've never heard of asbestos being used for carpet-underlay.0

Sounds like the sort of stuff I'm in process of pulling up now and there has been no suggestion of it containing asbestos (just as well, as I've had to remove some elsewhere in the house). I was told my particular carpet underlay was chosen by previous owner because it was so hardwearing (well that much was true, because its still in very good nick).0

ours wasnt glued down though , so was very simple to dispose of , i can imagine what a royal pain in the arris it must be for that sort of material to get up having been glued downNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0

In the 70s it was usual to put newspaper below underlay to prevent it sticking to the floor through years of wear, especially if laid on concrete floor. You have my sympathy OP.0

3 hours after starting it it was all up.
Pretty hard graft that all because they wanted to stick it down. It has lasted pretty well though.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
