*Beware* 1Loan dot co dot uk !!!

I was making enquiries about a short-term loan. Having completed a short application form, 1Loan then deducted £44.99 from my account. This was not visibly mentioned anywhere. My bank can also do nothing to retrieve this. BEWARE OF 1LOAN dot co dot uk.

It will have been visibly mentioned in the T&Cs that you confirmed that you agreed to and possibly on the screen where they asked you to give them your card details.

The reason your bank can do nothing is that there is nothing wrong with the transaction - you authorised it.

Now might be a good time to go back to the site and have another read of the T&Cs and see if there is a section on refunds. If you haven't wasted too much time trying to get your bank to refund, you may still be within the 14 day cooling off period.
  • The domain 1loan.co.uk may be for sale by its owner!

    Not looking good.

According to Wayback Machine the same message was there a year ago. OP, are you sure you have the right address?
  • Yes, I know it's a total scam. Looked at the site again, and the £44.99 is not mentioned anywhere except in the T&Cs (partly my fault for not looking). I've sent a recorded/registered letter to them to get it back within 30 days, but not holding my breath.

Assuming you sent the letter to the address in their T&Cs then if they don't refund in the 30 days, you will need to complain and possibly refer it to the FOS.

But, I'm confused how you seem able to view the site, but Fruit and Nut Case and tomtontom say is is just a holding page (I can't view it at all as my employer blocks it)

It's not a scam. You confirmed you had read the terms and conditions, it's your fault if you didn't notice it.

Here's an interesting page for the OP to have a look at:

    http://www.the1loan.co.uk/faq.php

FAQs: Do you take a fee?
We do ask for a small fee to cover our processing costs so we won't limit our search. However we only charge the amount of £44.99 compared to other loan sites charging £50, £60 or even £70+. We believe in treating customers fairly while providing the best service possible.

    No scam here.
