Dealing with new letting agreement at a distance?

I am in very poor health, disabled wheelchair user & facing moving in the near future to be nearer family who are several hundred miles away.


So my query is if my wife made the trip to view & decided on a property could all the paperwork be done by her whist she is there & would they need me to be physically present as this would be virtually impossible. The furthest I've been, from my house, in the past six months is a few hundred yards apart from hospital trips about six miles away.


Help would be good as it is causing me enough stress having to move.

    Up to the landlord/letting agent really, but I can't see why it would be a problem if your wife explains the situation. She should take some ID (photo ID like a passport if possible) and proof of address for you as well as for herself.

    You'll have to sign the tenancy agreement and post it back to the LL/agent.

    We are renting direct from our landlady, who we only met in person when we arrived to move in and take the keys.

    I'd imagine it would depend on the letting agent/LL, but in all likelihood they deal with things like this all the time with people relocating or one of the tenants working away.

    Are the letting agents part of a national chain? They may allow you to visit your local office or even a home visit if they needed to meet you before agreeing to let.

    Thank you so much for the advice which has put our minds at ease. I'm hoping we get a sympathetic letting agent that will make matters as easy as possible.
