Parking while in the premises?

A local landlord owns the parking that services shops she lets. Signs state parking is for customers while in shop premises. Out of shop hours a user of a cash machine at the bank (one of the premises served by the car park) receives a parking ticket. Is this a fair interpretation of the rules? Would window shopping be in breach of these rules? Should the user of the cash machine be made to pay the fine?
Comments please.

Assuming you have actually got a ticket over this then post a thread in the parking fine forum for advice on how to deal with it.

To clarify - whilst someone was taking 2 minutes to use the bank link machine, a parking attendant ran up, wrote a ticket, put the ticket on the car and ran off again, without the person seeing them?
  • Yes it happened.
I will follow advice but was really looking for feedback.
    Thanks

But read this thread before posting in the Parking forum. It gives you all the info you need. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4816822
  • More detail.
It is dark. The bank is opposite the car park. The employee of the private company enforcing the parking is sitting on a park bench overlooking the car park. In time taken to withdraw cash the ticket is served! Almost all tickets served in this car park are out of hours. Is using a cash point the same as being in the premises?

Of course it's unfair and totally wrong that you get a ticket while using the bank's machine.

But as said post the identical thread title in the parking section and the regulars on there will explain exactly how to beat this scam.

But you need to give more information.

Exactly who has issued this speculative invoice?

Did this happen in England or Wales - or in Scotland or Ireland.

All that will make a big difference on what you need to do /or not do next.

Yup - There are no "rules" about ptivate parking and this is most certainly not a fine. The world of private parking is still decidely a bit wild-west!

You need to read the info thread linked above and check-out the Parking Tickets forum, where you will probably find all sorts of good advice from the last eight months or so (ignore anything pre-2013 due to law changes in England and Wales) on how to see-off this company and their fake tickets. :)

If !!!!!! Turpin says Stand and Deliver. Do you need to physically stand?

Doesnt matter. Think of these people as !!!!!! Turpin but instead of a gun they have a banana. Now they are not as scary and you dont stand OR deliver.
