Open stair case

Hello. I have a open stair case that needs re carpeting. I've had a quote of nearly £400 for the stairs and small landing. Apparently it's a massive job and instead of wrapping carpet around each step (as it drops) a carpet will be fitted on the top of each step with door runners on each side of the step. Has anyone ever had this done and could send me a photo, or should I get the stair case closed and just have a normal carpet fitted. ? Any ideas please

We had an open staircase , we had it carpeted by tacking the carpet at the back edge of the tread, over,and also at the front edge and masking the front edge with a 15mm oak moulding fixed with 3 brass screws. Looked good, can't give photo as we moved house some time back

WE have an open stair case.
When I had the whole upper floor relaid and the stairs, that's 2 x bedroom, bathroom, landing and stairs, plus bottom landing, the stairs where said to be the easiest bit.

Proportionately they took no more time than the other rooms.

The carpet fitter said they much prefer open to to closed staircases.
They simply cut 13 or whatever equal sized strips and staple to the staircase, no long length bits to struggle with.

Also from experience it is a pretty easy DIY job for someone with confidence,

Did you have to paint the underneath and front of all the stairs?
