Handing over title deeds - is this normal?

    I am in the process of buying a property and noticed that Condition 6.5.1 of Standard Conditions of Sale (5th Edition) states that "on completion the seller must hand over the documents of Title". Therefore, I have asked the seller for the deeds, which he said are with his previous solicitor and reminded my solicitor of this Condition.
