Renew AST whilst into what is now a periodic tenancy?

Hi
We let a property and the ast expired in Jan but due to us moving and two family bereavements, we did not get around to renewing and sorting out a new AST agreement so I understand it is now a periodic tenancy. We didnt raise the rent or change any terms but I felt the ASTagreement was more official.
Can I now do a retrospective ast tenancy for the year ahead which would start from Jan just gone or can I do one starting from the next
rent due period - mid March?

Why bother? Nothing wrong with a Statutory Periodic Tenancy.

    Read:

Ending/Renewing an AST (what happens when the Fixed Term ends?)(What is a Periodic Tenancy?)(How can a LL remove a tenant?)(How can a tenant end a tenancy?)

However if you, and the tenants, both prefer a new fixed term agreement, then draw one up. It can start on any date you both agree on, and can be for any period of time you both want (3 months, 6, 8 & 1/2, whatever!)

Important: when the tenancy went periodic did you re-issue the 'Prescribed Information' relating to the deposit (assuming the tenats paid one)? See
