NPower - Can I request a bill

Anyone know if you can request a bill from their utility company?

Our last bill was in December and our next bill isn't until June 2014. We're currently £396 in credit. We're trying to save for a holiday but we want to make sure we have enough money to pay the bills in June.

If I could request a bill now then I could pay off what we owe and then we'd know how much extra we could add to our holiday fund.

No reason why you can't but I suspect from the total shambles that nPower seem to have got themselves into you won't have a lot of success in getting one that's correct.
Are you sure the last bill you got was correct and not an estimate - you've still got a couple of relatively cold months to go so some of your "credit" might get whittled away.
Trying to pay it off outside their shambolic system might cause even more problems. If you are on a tariff with direct debit then stopping it early might cause you to lose your DD discount and invoke an early termination fee.

If I were you I'd read the meter regularly so you can do your own sums and work out how much its going to be and keep saving.

I know, they are flippin awful. I can't even make it out doing my own calculations. I have reading every month since August but no idea where to start with calculating it.

What makes you think you're so much in credit?

You can ring at any time with meter reads and ask for a bill. If you are really lucky you might even get one.

input a read online, then should bill
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

They used to bill after a meter reading, but I was told by them the other day that this was due to a problem with their system last year and "it shouldn't have done that".

I'd got used to my monthly .pdf bills online.

I've just been billed however due to changing tariff. I'm £186 in credit after this so a bit miffed they didn't refund the balance...

Why can't you work out how much you have spent and your new balance? Surely you should be taking less than ninety seconds once or twice a season to check this as a matter of course regardless of holiday plans.

Look at the bill in December - note the meter reads and balance. Read your neters today. Do the subtraction. Do the single multiplication for gas to convert to kWhs. Multiply by price per kWh in pence and divide by 100 (or multiply by price in pounds).

Of course this only works if paying on receipt of bill. If paying by direct debit then you cannot rely on expecting the balance to be paid back to you in time.
