Hi All,

I have a column of of data at the start there is a four digit code and then there is a name, is it possible to just copy the four digit code for the entire column and paste this within a separate spreadsheet?

Thanks

That's one way but I wanted to physically just copy the first four digits across without using code.

If you dont want them linked then I think what you will have to do is create a column in your current spreadsheet using the Left function, then copy that into your new spreadsheet remembering to use paste special and paste values only.

And if you want to strip out the first 4 characters and end up with two clean columns of data, use the same technique with the formula

    =RIGHT([Cell Reference],LEN([Cell Reference])-4)

But a simpler way would have been the menu options "Data" => "Text to Columns"
