We moved house in Nov last year. Due to estate agents faffing, mucking us about and generally dragging their feet we didn't know till a couple days before that we were definitely moving. This meant we couldn't prearrange our energy supplier. As soon as we moved in I got onto MSE and started the process of shifting our energy etc.
signed up for a cashback reward and ended up with EON.

Who took forever to actually take over. I think we were into January before the official switch. Then wouldn't let us put readings in until it suited them... and continued to tell us we didn't have readings in when I'd put them in 3 times.

Then yesterday I received a letter saying we didn't have our direct debit set up in time so we are no longer eligible for a discount.

I've no idea exactly what this means financially, but I'm well p'd off at the fact that I did everything I could to make sure we were on top of things and I am positive that I sorted out the dd as soon as it was asked for. Has anyone else had similar letters and poor service from eon?

    Hi Pontoon,

This doesn't really sound great to be honest :o

So did you contact the current supplier of the new house when you first moved in to set up the account? Then arrange the change of supplier to us via a comparison site?

It takes about 4-6 weeks to change supplier so we wouldn't have been the supplier from the start.

Although, we should have been able to set up the Direct Debit once the account was open with us.

You wouldn't have been able to put your own reads on your online account until the gas and electricity account was live, did you call us with the reads?

Did you receive a welcome letter, then a letter/email asking for your reads?

We have also changed the way we apply our discounts. Instead of a percentage discount for payment by Monthly Direct Debit, we now give a cash adjustment of £35 per fuel per year. This will be paid via a lower daily standing charge.

Additionally, there’s a £20 discount per year for taking both gas and electricity from us.

You can also receive up to £5 per year per fuel off bills if they register with our website for paperless billing.

If you need me to help you further, please let me know.

As above, you can't 'pre-arrange' a supplier. You are initially in a deemed contract with the existing supplier. A transfer cannot begin until you have registered with them.

We were basically stuck with the previous supplier, for the first couple of months. We were getting sent letters from 3 different companies and trying to make sure we had the right and relevant readings for each. The one that I thought should have been easiest was the one we were moving to.
As we didnt' organise a contract with the previous supplier and I didn't know how to deal with them I just contacted the supplier I wanted to be with. I assumed that was sufficient.
House moving is really frustrating as you can't plan it when you are in a chain of 8 people! We were warned by too many people that you won't know till you have the keys in your hand, that the move is going ahead.

There were dates given, but the online website wouldnt take the readings on the date. I ended up phoning them in. It was all very very annoying due to the fact I think it was over 8 weeks to transfer. I would need to check the paperwork to be positive.

The thing I'm most miffed about is this letter saying we didn't set up a direct debit, when I filled out all paperwork asap, due to the chaos of unpacking I stayed on top of things by not postponing things like that. The only way for the dd to not be set up is if something went squew whiff at the other end.

I was just wondering if others had the same problem or if it was just us, due to bad timing. I imagine Christmas and New Year put a delay on something being processed somewhere.
