Strange oven advice from Currys

We want to buy an electric oven and gas hob from Currys (oven a Samsung BT621VDB and hob Samsung GN642FFXD).
When we went in to order the two yesterday, and book delivery and fitting, the guy serving us took all our details down, went away, came back and told us that we wouldn't be able to fit a Samsung electric oven with any gas hob. He said this was because Samsung ovens aren't designed to allow enough room behind them for a gas fitting.
He said this applies to all Samsung ovens, but no other make.
Can this be true ? A major manufacturer of ovens doesn't allow any of their ovens to be used with gas hobs ?
I've looked everywhere on the internet and can't find any mention of it, and places like Amazon actually sell dual packs of Samsung ovens and gas hobs, all with positive user reviews, so clearly some people are combining the two.
Has anyone heard of this before ?
Thks

That sounds silly. Why don't you give Samsung customer service a call?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Yeah - have emailed them and will call them at lunch time.
Also have a gas engineer friend so will ask him, but I can't believe Samsung would design a whole range of ovens that are incompatible with gas hobs.
It's not like I'm trying to connect a microwave to solid fuel range.0 -
You surely don't expect coherent tech advice from an employee of DSG?
As above, check with the manufacturer (and if possible buy it elsewhere). No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Have just called the Samsung helpline and they say the guy was talking rubbish. There is no reason why you can't combine an electric oven and gas hob - that's what they're designed for, after all.
She pointed me towards the online manual which gives the minimum sizes of cabinet I need, so I'll check it tonight and might try to get them from somewhere else anyway.
Thanks for your help.0 -
Aye definitely a DSG clueless employee.
At worst you may have problems with some depths of kitchen units, but to flat out say it's not possible is fairly stupid given that worktops come in all sorts of depths (600 is the normal, 650, 700 are also used), and most cookers are designed to allow some clearance at the back for the likes of water pipes that are often found in kitchens, behind the units, and ventilation of the actual cooker.0 -
Appliances online does suggest that model is suited to eyelevel, rather than under worktop unless the worktop is deep enough that no part of the hub protrudes under that level, and quote this unit is 'small in height' so the spacing of the oven house 'could' interfere...
Look at the pictures and questions on there..
One shows the clearance of where the top of over housing would be in relation to the top of the over when viewed from the front...the over could be quite close to the hob that is above that and how that may be connected to the gas supply..

So there may be an element of truth in what they have suggested , just not 'conveyed' in a sensible way...0
