    Doesn't matter if you use a Dvd-rw or a dvd-r.

    Think you meant "slipstreaming" which is another good way of restoring the operating system including updates and nowadays you can also add in drivers and specific programs. Lots of tutorials on YouTube, look for Britec09's channel.

    However, My personal opinion is that imaging your disk is a lot faster and easier to do for non-techies. Macrium Reflect is a good free program as is Aomei's Backupper. I find the latter's User's Interface will probably be less intimidating to someone who has never used backup software before.
