    Really?

So if you go to a shelf littered with ANY 2 for £3 you'd think it was specific to the one brand? I've mixed and matched these offers for years, an good example is the ale offer where you can choose an ale, a cider and a lager for £5.

I'd certainly not expect products side by side to be on separate offers.

I'm lost completely, sorry! It wouldn't occur to me that you could buy one from each brand?

    .!
With the any 2 for X offers in Supermarkets I often ask staff if you can mix and match brands. They will go and check if they don't know. Often you can mix and match.

I'd have been wary due to the different brands - yes you do get "any 2 for £3" offers but they are normally either all within the same brand or within the same manufacturer - so all Nestle or all Kellogs or all own brand. So in this instance I'd be wary because its Yeo Valley and Rachels. The only way you tend to get mixed brands is if a section of shelving is marked off as any 2 for £3 with no small print on the labels. I can see why it might catch some out, but its clear enough for me.

With alcohol it makes sense to have a mix and match offer, because that reflects how people shop. With something like yoghurt I would assume it was brand exclusive for the same reason - people tend to stick with one brand.

I see, but you can't even mix the same brand

    http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Search/Default.aspx?searchBox=Rachel%27s&newSort=true&search.x=0&search.y=0&search=Search

The brand is split into numerous Any 2 for £3, I'm looking at the one I bought plus a kids one in this example.

I'll have to keep my eyes open in future.

If you click on Any 2 for £3 it lists the ones you can mix.

Under the sign for any 2 for £3 on each label it tells you the criteria, pretty clear to me.

Which just indicates how unclear it can be. If the staff don't know, what chance do shoppers have?

Having been using Tesco for years I believe I've managed to infer the rules by now and they generally make sense, but are by no means 'obvious'.

We also have self scan at our Tesco so problems with getting caught out with complicated pricing are a thing of the past for those (a surprisingly small proportion) who use the system.

and why would staff know without checking ?

there are 1000's of products instore, are you expecting staff to know, from memory, every price and every offer in store ?
