. I would do, but they're both owners (well, with mortgages, but you know what I mean). 0 -
If you really want to move I would look at a house swap. No way would I think renting would be a good idea.
I rent and even though I have been in my present house for over 9 years and the landlord is pretty decent, even if he won't ever spend even a penny on the property, I worry all the time in case he suddenly decides to sell or rent to a relative etc.
Before my present house I had 2 other rented houses. The first one would only give 6 month tenancies and then every 6 months put the rent up and not by a small amount. He also had a door key and would let himself in when he felt like it. When I changed the locks he went mad and gave me (and OH) lots of abuse so we moved. The second landlord also would only give 6 month tenancies and yes, surprise surprise after the first 6 months were up he wanted to raise the rent by £100 a month. This was despite the fact that when we moved in the kitchen consisted of a sink in a room (we put in a cheap kitchen) and the bathroom (well mainly the toilet) was so disgusting and beyond cleaning that we replaced it.
It doesn't bother me that me and OH don't own a property but it does bother me that we have no security whatsoeverThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
The quick answer is no you don't and additionally you would have to live 24/7 with the possibiity of eviction at any moment. My concern is this, do you have basically the same rights in a private rented property as obviously i'd lose the security of a long term tenancy.................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -

And you'd need to ensure you have the equivalent of a month's deposit and a month's rent in advance stashed away in savings at all times. Plus the referencing fees every single time you need a new tenancy.
Some working couples can have a stressful time of it being on the move at regular intervals, never mind a single-earner with five kids in tow. Landlords are not fond of large families, and some don't let to any couples with kids, because of the additional wear-and-tear on the property and contents, so you're not likely to be an attractive prospect to a lot of them.0 -
Might be worth phoning the council and seeing if they have a mutual exchange list or something online to see about a swap/exchange. Might take a bit longer that way but a lot less hassle when it comes to security for the kids and yourself.
There might be someone else who is looking for exactly what you have right now. Also, if something goes wrong within the rented property it can be very hard to get landlord, letting agent to actually come and repair. Councils arent much better but with kids in the house you would be priority if something went wrong.0 -
Glad we helped, sorry to be a bunch of damp squibs but that is the reality."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

I agree with PlymouthMaid - sorry we rained on your parade.
Hopefully it helped though
Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...0
