Problem Switching from E.ON

Hi guys

hope someone can advise here, basically switched from E.ON to SSE for gas.

Now there was a problem with the final readings going across from SSE to E.ON and so an estimate was sent across of

6348

the actual reading was 6335 as of January 18th.

Since January 18th only 1 unit has been used (so you can see how low the usage is here.) now currently at 6336.

I've been told by SSE that " the opening / closing read of 6348 can not be changed to 6335 as this falls within the standard variance limit. "

is this right? At the current rate of usage that's 13 MONTHS of gas that hasn't been used but will have to be paid for.

Apologies for caps but I'm just fuming here, I can't see how this is fair and just at all, I really would appreciate any advice which can be given as it seems the old supplier sends me to the new supplier and vice versa....

thank you for reading

Ella x

p.s. it probably doesn't amount to a lot of actual cash, but it's the principal of having to pay for something which hasn't been used.

But as long as the opening and closing reads agree, it makes no difference. What you are billed for by one supplier, you won't be billed for by the other. The only difference will be the tariff price difference.

  • so it's ok to pay 13 months upfront?

    Hi electric_comperella,

macman is spot on here, make sure your new supplier opens your account from the same read as we closed the account to, this means you'll only be charged once for the energy.

The dispute raised with meter readings in these cases is called an ARD (agreed read dispute) it's an industry wide process, but there are thresholds that are worked to, it looks like the difference is within this and the reason an ARD can not be raised.

I do understand your frustrations though, but I'm sorry I can't change this process.

I'll be more than happy to check your account for you though, to make sure it's all ok.

  • thanks I'm going to wait and see what the final bills look like, hopefully no further action will be needed as SSE have been very good at trying to get things sorted out.

You are disputing 13 meter units? What does that represent in kWh? Impossible to say as we don't know if your meter is metric or imperial.
With such low usage, I hope you are switching to an NSC tariff. If not, Ebico is the obvious move.

The difference is tiny and you are not paying for gas you haven't used. Just chill out. There are plenty of other things to worry about
