What small DFW things are we all doing today?

Monday, 3rd March 2014.

Morning all DFW members

It is the start of a new week, a new month. The clocks will be springing forward and it is Mothering Sunday this month.

It is noticeably lighter in the mornings and evenings now. I just wish the warmer weather would hurry along. Getting fed up of layering up the clothes in aid of having no heating on in the day. It is at the moment 19C in our house. No complaining now! i am telling myself. Sometimes it is 15C or 16C.

Raining again!

Penny pinching in the home today =
Poured some shop brand fabric conditioner into a posher brand bottle.
Checked the fridge and moved things around.
Looked at the plants/seedlings.
Complete surveys as they come in my email box.
Cleaning, tidy up and washing.
Read free book on kindle.
Craft - knitting and sewing.
Whats for dinner - unsure yet!

Have a good day. Get well soon wishes to anyone feeling ill.
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)

    Morning all,

Hope everyone is well. Glad to report having budgeted for the month ahead, I have made another payment to my debts today at the start of the month rather than the end, hope I can stick within my spends and remain in the black like last month. It felt great to do so.

    My DFW list:

    1) checked banking
    2) paid £300 off my credit card debt, I had an additional £30 to pay as I recently balance transferred and had that fee to cover. Darn!
    3) updated signatures to reflect new totals, credit card in 3 figures, so pleased. Can't tell you how long it's been since I was in 3 figures.
    4) transferred 250 to my childcare fund, once June comes, that money will be free for debts as I no longer require it. Yay!!
    5) take ds for swim lesson , £12 out of my home spends fund.
    7) batch cook this afternoon for week ahead, hubby working away so nice to have stuff ready to heat up as my evenings with two ds's is hectic.
    8) loads of washing on and clothes on the clothes horse now on radiators to finish off.
    9) do some surveys
    10) do more crafts for my new venture. & try to create a Facebook page for it. Hopefully stuff I have ordered online to finish off some of the bits I have made already will arrive today, ordered them last Monday grrrrrr!!!!!

That's all from me, have a great day.

    :)

    Morning Monday Savers,
*Have saved energy by sharing bath water, doing laundry overnight on Economy 7, hanging everything out to dry in this lovely sunshine, saving hot kettle water in flask for next coffee, noting that turning 1 bedroom storage heater down a single notch last week saved 10 units of night time electricity.
*Did rubber chicken - Enough for a potato topped chicken pie tonight which I can just do within our calorie allowance. Carcass in slow cooker for stock.
    *Did a couple of surveys.
*Garden birds had scraps rather than re-filling the feeders, which will not happen until all the ignored peanuts have been eaten!
*Updated grocery & my personal spends budgets.
*Tweaked this week's meal plans as tonight's meal is an 'extra', which means I can move something to next week.
*Cast on another hat which will go in the present box for another of our friends.
*Check all seedlings & if the sunshine holds, weed another small veggie bed.
*Free fitness, as did exercise DVD first thing.
A new week, let's keep our hands on our pennies,
    f x
SettingIn - think it may have been you who asked what my Big Budget Day involved, sorry can't remember, but I did explain it in weekend post. If you make it through to the end, lol, hope it was useful x
2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi All

Thanks for starting the thread Good Advice. I know what you mean re looking forward to warmer weather.

SettingIn - Well done on making an extra payment. Always feels good.

    Hello Foxgloves.

    How are you feeling Ziggy?

I worked all weekend so temptations were limited. Husband made us a roast chicken dinner last night so that fed the 3 of us, plus leftovers for sandwiches etc. It wasnt a huge bird so we'll see how far it goes.

I didnt have a very good nights sleep. One of those nights were even though you've decided how you want to handle things during the day, your nighttime brain seems to want to make you leap awake to think about them again. Then pinged awake at 6.30 which I really dislike. Have made progress on several of the issues this morning, so hoping I can rest tonight.

Just signing off my 2nd years business accounts today, which means horray I lasted that long, but boo i now have a whopper of a bill to pay (£1200) am hoping my accountant might take pity on me and allow me to spread that over 2 months. Fingers crossed.

Have booked the car again to be picked up by Mad Scrap tommorow. They didnt come last week so Im really keen to get it gone tommorow. The £150 will be handy as well.

World Book day for the kids this thursday, Im lucky that my son chose a character he loves weeks ago and we have clothes for him to be that character, reading some pretty funny Mumsnet stuff right now on kids asking their parents to make them Elmer the Elephant etc. Lol, how do you make a patchwork elephant costume :)

Apprently GreasyPalm have BAC'd me £36 today so thats good news.

    Have great days all.

    Bob

Not posted for a couple of weeks but have still been doing the little things!

    Today:
-B/L/D from stores. Breakfast - still using up a 21p loaf bought on Friday - not mouldy yet so will continue to use!! Lunch - left over spag bol, got 6 portions out of 500g by bulking out with veg. Dinner will be curry using some of the leftover chicken from roast dinner.

-Small spend - need bread for packed lunches for the week and some fruit. Hopefully max £5-6.

-Im going to slightly turn down the heating secretly tonight. DH is a reptile but i am slowly converting him to putting on a jumper rather than putting on the heating. Was so annoyed on Friday, he had been off work all day and i came home to the heating on 'constant' all day at 25 degrees. It was like a sauna - i actually had to open windows to let the heat out as it was suffocating - what a waste!!!!

-washing machine and dishwasher on after 11pm for economy 7 tariff.

-list 5 things on ebay and package up one for post office on Wednesday.

Have a good day all :-)

My first time posting on these threads.

I have sold a few things from my craft room on Ebay, and they are being posted today, so £90 from Paypal into my bank account.
Have rearranged dental appointment, so hubby can drive me (it is nearly 2 hours away!) - and that will also stop me being tempted by the shopping in Swansea.
Continuing to make meals from what we have in the fridge/freezer/pantry.
Chopped up all of the fruit in the fridge and put in the freezer (I have a Nutribullet for healthy fruit/veg blends), so it will not go off before I can use it.
Will be lighting the woodburner again later, which means the underfloor heating downstairs will not need to come on.
Will be listing more items on Ebay.
DEBT FREE IN SEPTEMBER 2022, after 33 years of debt!
Now I concentrate on building my £6000 Emergency Fund

    Hi All
Thanks Good Advice and well done Settingin

I am not sure where I am with updates at the moment. I explained last week that my tenants are moving out and I will now be selling the property that I own ( we rent now) I will have to cover the mortgage £469 until the house sells - so no debt busting just min. payments. They are moving out on the 17th but have paid up to the 24th as that is their months notice period. Fingers crossed the house sells quickly as I will instantly become a member of the Debt Free role of Honour woo hoo - wasn't expecting that from 2014!

    Today

Checked bank everything ok so far
Applied for job - same money but better job and will be out and about more
Wrote up my non-electronic calendar for the month so I know where I am
Brought healthy lunch in to work greek yogurt with almonds and dried cranberries for brekkie and a vegan salad bowl for lunch
I gave my friend a belated birthday cake - a slice of lemon tart that I made yesterday was amazing let me know if you would like recipe - its easy!
I got filmed for a piece on climate week by some student journalists
So tonight I need to do some washing - make something nice for dinner - got a big shop in Aldi yesterday with my vouchers from the paper you can't beat £60 for a weeks shopping for a family of 5
I have an Assignment to write urgently so will make a start shortly

Feeling positive today inspite of the forthcoming unknown length of time before our house sells

    good day all

  • Morning Lovelies!!

Hope everyone is well and happy this sunny Monday!!

Had a fantastic weekend with the parents and OH...
Dad took me as his passenger on his first flying lesson - which was amazing!! Then we all went back to Wales where we were spoilt rotten!

So, today's list goes something like:

:) Check banking and move pay into savings accounts

    :) Nectar Adpoints

:) Make packed lunch for OH to take to work

    :) Train at work's gym

    :) Quick shower

:) Washing on economy cycle - hang out to dry

:) Heating staying off - apparently we're in some kind of micro-climate here on the coast!! It's been beautiful! :D

:) Plant lovely seedlings and strawberry plants donated by Dad into allotment

:) Chill out for a couple of hours!!

:) Dinner from stores - lemon sole with steamed veg

:) Get OH to cut my hair when she gets home

:) Sit down and write final list of things we need for our holiday next month - hopefully shouldn't be much!

All of the above should equate to a No Spend Day and set us up for my worst week shift-wise... 6 days of 14+ hour shifts
Never mind - thinking of the overtime!!

    Lots of love,

    Shoot xxx

  • Happy Monday to you all! What a nice change to see the sunshine today :)

Back at work and into normal routine today having been off for the last couple of weeks sick as a dog, its great to feel 'normal' again :j

    So far today:

    * Checked Bank account, no surprises thank goodness.
    * Porridge for breakfast, last night's leftovers for lunch and a homemade soup out of the freezer for dinner. I keep all the crusts from our homemade loaves in the freezer so I'll toast them and cut up as croutons.
    * I'm going to refill the empty kitchen cleaning spray with vinegar, might have a look on the OS thread to see the best way to do this.
    * Taking DS 1&2 t their swimming lesson tonight, DS1 has lost his goggles so I'm going to ask to borrow a pair from the huge stash they have in the lost property, I refuse to buy new ones when they'll turn up sooner or later. Also taking snacks, they don't even ask me for goodies when we walk past the strategically placed vending machines these days....
    * I too have sneaked the heating down an hour or so a day, but I also have a DH who happily whacks the heating on constant whenever he is at home, it drives me nuts!!!!

    Have a good day all!

    *de-lurks*

Soopa - I use 1/4 vinegar and fill the rest up with water. Not sure if this is the accepted ratio but haven't melted anything yet

Bob - I actually had to dress as Elmer once (worked at a bookshop). Dreadful hired in costume that seemed to be made out of a duvet. Looked the part but stank of smoky bacon crisps inside (probably stale bo )

ziggy - hope you're getting better

good advice - thanks for starting us off
