I have been an additional driver on my bf's car but now we have split and im moving into my own flat with my own car. I have been getting quotes on gocompare, I have been driving for just over a year but i dont have a no claims bonus - I read that if you add an older driver it can bring your car insurance down so Im wondering if they have to be living at the same address?? I would like to add on my dad.
or any tips on how to keep insurance low?
thanks

No, they don't have to live at the same address.
Some insurers may ask for copy licences.0 -
If you add him as an additional driver rather than the main driver then it should be fine. My son does not live with me but is named as the second driver on my insurance. In my case it possibly works in my favour as they think he is less likely to drive the car if we don't live together - which is true as he generally only drives the car once a week for a very short distance.
However, in your case, the opposite could possibly apply, as your parent is older and, theoretically, less of a risk than you.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
Thanks, I have tried it and it does work out a little cheaper.0

Try adding a grandparent. It knocks £200 off my daughters insurance.
Adding me only affected the quote by£20 sometimes cheaper and sometimes dearer.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
