Offering to buy a property for let?

I've seen a property that I really like, the location and inside of it is perfect for me. Only problem is the owner has it up for rent, not for sale. Is it worth even asking if they are interested in selling? Has anyone had any success in doing this? I am thinking of just phoning the letting agency tomorrow and see if they can ask the owner for me...I suppose I have nothing to lose?

Though I imagine if the owner wanted to sell, he'd be advertising it for sale.....
Having said that, if you offer enough he might be persuaded it's a better deal than leting.0 -

You're right, I don't think it's likely they will want to sell considering it only went on the market for rent 2 weeks ago, but maybe I'll get lucky!0
