Brand new Bush washing machine exploded tonight!

I can't believe that I'm writing this but just this evening me and the wife were sat in the lounge after putting on the washing machine with only baby clothes in and a cot sheet and suddenly we hear a loud rumble which gets louder and louder and then a suddenly a big bang!
We run into the kitchen to see sparks and smoke coming out the washing machine!
The drum has completely dropped and started to shred the base of the machine.
We brought the washing machine from Homebase and it was delivered and installed on the 11th of February, so less than 30 days old!!
It was absolutely terrifying experience and our 4 month old hasn't stopped crying since :-(
Really not sure what to do, how can a washing machine break in such little time!?

Switch off the power to make it safe. Contact the retailer and/or manufacturer first thing tomorrow.0 -

Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -
I wonder if the installers forgot to remove the drum anchoring plates. These are fitted to stop the drum slapping about during transport and need to be removed before use. Your machine would have worked ok until it had to deal with it's first uneven load, then it would have shaken itelf to bits.0

You'd expect a washing machine to last longer than 19 days regardless! It's not fit for purpose otherwise!
Are the anchor plates the same as the transit bolts? If so I think all those were taken out.0 -

Yes, that's what I meant. I couldn't think of their proper name. Yes, that's quite a short life but still, problems often show up really early on or much later in life. Search for bathtub curve and you'll see what I mean.0 -
