Dyslexia and practical driving test?

When applying for my practical the website asks if I have dyslexia, which I do, what difference; if any, will this even make to the actual test?

Wouldn't depend on the kind of dyslexia? For instance if one couldn't read, then some road signs could pose a problem, likewise being colour blind I would guess.

It is so the examiner knows prior to the test and can take into consideration and make any allowances for a disability.

An example being people that get mixed up between left and right, if the examiner knows then as well as telling a candidate to turn right they will also point right as well.

Apart from "fine detail", such as parking hours restriction times, not really - the only "major" ones with text on them are GW and STOP - and they're internationally standardised and unique shapes.

OP - I guess the answer varies on how severe your dyslexia is. In general, though, if it's serious enough to affect your test then your instructor would have commented upon it.

I'd guess the most likely time it'd cause problems is in vision test, with the reading of a number plate.

Do they still ask you to read a numberplate before starting the test?
If so, that could be a problem for a dyslexic.

You can ignore most of the above ^^^^^^ clearly the posters have no knowledge of Dyslexia.

Go to the BDA website where you will get the specific information on help with driving tests.

Remember that you are entitled to twice the amount of time for the theory and in most cases an opticians letter is sufficient for the eyesight test.

And you can ignore some of that as well, a letter from the optician will NOT suffice. The letter just helps to explain your situation, though it will probably be written in "techspeak" so I would advise speaking to your local Test Centre Manager at the Driving Test Centre who will put your mind at ease.
You WILL have to read a numberplate, we don't mind if you read it back to front or mix up the order.

Assume that this is the real answer, though cannot remember being asked when I did my test back in the mid 90s

You are asked to read a number plate from 20 or 20.5m depending on the style of number plate. If you can't do this, you don't even get as far as sitting in the car - you've failed the test.

I think to get extra time etc you do need to be a properly diagnosed dyslexic and show them the report/statement from the educational psychologist or whoever performed the test.

No, I know that bit. I dont remember being asked if I was dyslexic at any point when booking the test or before doing the sight test.
