How to download email .jpg attachments arriving in my gmail inbox?

A friend recently send me some emails with photos attached as .jpg attachments. I use gmail and the photos have arrived in my inbox with a couple of strange symbols on them. I just want to download them directly onto my pc and I used to just right click "as save" and put them straight into the folder where I wanted to store them.
Now this option does not seen to be available and I can only seem to first download them into a google download folder and then move them where I want. And for one of them I cannot even do this, it keeps telling me it is in webpage format.
Can anyone explain to me how this works?

when you press the save as, cant you just choose the option to desktop? Then put them where you want. some times ive dl'ed things and cat bloody find them so I always put things on my desk topAll the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0

Click on the left hand symbol, download, navigate to the folder you want to save them in and Save.0
