Car insurance renewal approx NCB discount?

Hello,

It's time for me to renew my car insurance next week. About me:

Age: 32
Gender: Male
Been driving for one year so will have 1 year NCB.
New driver insurance cost: £950
Rough average for this years quotes (through comparison sites etc): £925

I'm happy with the details I've put into comparison websites and have tried lots of variations, named drivers, job titles etc.

Is it normal to get such a poor NCB with 1Y NCB? I was expecting at least a 10% reduction, ideally up to 30%!

Thanks,

Zither

£925 for a Bugatti Veyron in Central London postcode is probably not a bad price, especially as the occupation is an entertainer.

Try adding another driver to the quote as an additional driver

Good point! Up North, 8 year old Ford Focus 1.6 Diesel.

Tried adding another named driver (3 in total, 2 female retirees!) and only brought the quote down by about £20.

I don't mind if that's genuinely what it costs but just read lots about how people's second year insurance seems to reduce exponentially with 1Y NCB!!!

Its not clear what you are doing to be able to comment. If you are simply comparing quotes of 0 NCD and 1 year NCD with all other details being the same then its the introductory discount thats eroding the NCD

Many insurers give a discount to those who meet certain criteria but have 0 NCD which is generally just under that of 1 years NCD. The exact criteria differ by insurer but often have a minimum age, minimum license period, no actual claims made etc

Hi II, thanks for the feedback, useful stuff.

As another question, do car insurance comparison websites typically include 'insurance premium tax' in the quoted price? Or when you sign up, will the supplier add tax on top?

    Thanks :)

IPT will be included in the given quote

Thanks again II, with a little bit of haggling I got them to price match and knock a bit more off. Not quite a saving as I was hoping for but better than the starting price.

    Thanks. :)
