Ex spouse on credit report

Not really given it much thought before, but my husband's ex-wife's name still appears under "financial association" on my husband's credit reports.

They split/divorced in 2001/2002 (before I met him) and I believe the last (old and unused) joint account was closed some time in 2003. The credit reports show that the association was last confirmed in 2004.

He has had no contact at all since the letter in 2003 to give permission to close the joint account and has no clue where she is, what she's doing, or if she's even still alive.

When I get a quote for car insurance etc it shows up as a financial associate search, but there's nothing on the rest of his reports from her.

Could anything she does/does not do now affect my husband negatively?

If she still is listed as financially linked then yes her actions could be linked to hers.

I believe he needs to contact the credit ref agencies and do a "statement of disassociation".

This link here was thrown up by google and explains it and the credit ref agencies have notes on their website.

    Thanks Alibobsy :)

I read up on the Experian link and it asked for her details, such as current address, any other names (no idea if she re-married) etc Would it be a problem removing her without any additional information, considering he has had no financial account linked to her for over 10 years?

    Hello there,

From what I understand you should be able to disassociate with no real problems. The only problems occur when there is still some kind of link. I'm pretty sure it'll be OK.

    Best wishes,

    David.
