Claim on my buildings and contents insurance - do I have two lots of excess to pay?

Hi,

Our toilet had a nasty leak last week and has caused damage to our lounge ceiling and also our carpet in our bedroom.

The carpet, will be a claim against contents, the ceiling against our buildings. The excess on the policy is £350, I'm guessing each policy is separate, so does that mean £700?

Any help, appreciated!

Thanks in anticipation

    Are they two separate policies?

It will depend completely on the company you purchased from - some have an excess per claim, others have an excess per section. Excess per claim is more common when purchasing a policy directly (e.g from Direct Line), excess per section is more common when purchasing through an intermediary (e.g AA) as they tend to split your policy up.

If you have a different policy number for buildings and contents, it's likely you'll have to pay an excess twice.

I am with L&G, and I think - they are the same policy. So I should be ok!!

    Thanks for your help!!!
