I live in the NE, and although there is plenty of NMW paying jobs, we also have the highest unemployment rate of 10%. In other words, more people looking for jobs than jobs available.

BS to it being migrants. There are very few migrant communities up here. The problem is that we have a wealth of people skilled in manufacturing, and no manufacturing jobs. A hotel not far from me closed its doors with no warning on Friday, only last week they were advertising for Kitchen/House-Keeping work.

Perhaps I should of said low skilled work as loads of employers have jumped on the NMW bandwagon because they can, skilled or not.
    What is low skilled then?

Give us something to go on?

Anything can be low skilled if you need no experience to start off with and can learn on the job.

Yes exactly, I suppose shop work, stores & warehouse, factory work that type of thing. It is extremely rare to see these type of jobs advertised around here and I have been looking daily for 2 years.

Around here we have an endless supply of builders, tradesmen etc anyone related to the building business and no jobs which I also fall into, I know of some who travel to England weekly for work

Where do you live? A remote Scottish Island? There are loads of warehouse / factory jobs. Low skilled because they take like half a day to become a master of it.

Move up to the Newcastle area, we have hundreds of these type of vacancies. I had an interview for 3 on Friday, another for Tesco's on Tuesday, Greggs on Wednesday (and another at a restaurant.)

I may as well live on a remote Scottish Island, as I say this has been going on for 2 years now I've been looking. I do live in a rural area, the nearest city is about 35 - 40 miles away, I have 2 large towns within a 20 mile radius which is what I restrict my search to, any further a field wouldn't pay me with travel costs.

I wouldn't say loads but there is something every day, the difference. Between them type of jobs and unskilled is unskilled generally only appear on the government job site where as professional type jobs have a dozen + sites, your Monsters, Reed etc
