Exboss wants wages back but company name changed

Hi I hope someone can help me. My husband used to work for a company and left at the end of December 2013. His boss then texted him and stated that he owes his 2 days wages back as my husband was off sick for a day and then walked out the day after. His boss was a horrible man. My husband was willing to pay back the 2 days that he was off. The only concern is just as my husband was leaving the company they were changing over company's from one to the other. They were aware they he did not want to sign a new contract with the "new" company. His boss has since said that he wants a cheque made payable to "new" company name. But my husband is not happy to make a cheque out to them as he DID NOT work for the new company only the old company. His boss is threatening to take him to court if he don't pay soon. Therefore we would like to know where he stands. Any help and advice would be appreciated as I cant find anything online.

He was not able to get sick pay as he was only off for 1 day and the owed another day as he walked out a day before companys changed over.
They are a ltd company.0 -
Ask them to set out, in writing (in a real letter), what they want in recompense. Also the reasons behind it. And to whom they want the cheque payable.
You may never get the letter in which case move on.
If you do get the letter you can decide if you want to pay or not. From the sounds of it he does indeed owe the money so you should pay it.0 -

Why did he leave early?
Was the contract terminated or did he resign or just not turn up.
What was the issue with the new contract
How long had he worked there.0
